Data that is useful

Mastery tracking that tells you what to do next

A percentage tells you a student is struggling. A mastery map tells you which idea they are struggling with, which is the only version you can teach from.

Averages hide the thing you need. A 78 percent could be a student who understands everything and made careless errors, or a student who has three skills cold and one missing entirely. Those two children need opposite responses, and the gradebook most of us were handed cannot tell them apart.

Per skill, per student, continuously

ClassSense tracks mastery at the level of the individual skill. Every practice answer, quiz item and game round updates it, recording the value before and after, along with difficulty, time spent, hints used and attempt number.

Because it updates as students work, the picture is current rather than a snapshot of the last thing you graded.

What you actually look at

It changes what students get

Mastery is not only a report. It drives what comes next: which difficulty tier a student sees, when an alternate explanation is generated, and what their daily plan contains. The tracking and the teaching are the same system, which is the part a spreadsheet can never do.

Override is always available. If you know a score is wrong, you can override mastery directly. Teacher judgment outranks the model.

Common questions

Is this standards-based grading?

It tracks mastery per skill, which is the mechanism standards-based grading needs. It does not currently map to a specific state standards framework automatically.

Where does the data come from?

From work students already do: practice, quizzes and games. There is no separate assessment to administer and nothing to enter by hand.

Can parents see it?

Parents see their own child's progress through the parent portal, using an invite code you issue.
