The basics
Common questions
What is ClassSense in one sentence?
It turns curriculum you already teach into adaptive lessons, practice, games and auto-graded assessments, and tracks mastery per student per skill.
Do I have to build courses from scratch?
No. You upload a unit you already teach as a PDF, DOCX or PPTX, and the lessons are built from that document.
What does it cost?
Nineteen dollars a month for an individual teacher, with unlimited courses and unlimited students. Group pricing for schools is available on request.
Does it replace my school's LMS?
Usually not, and it does not need to. Most teachers keep their district system for rostering and official grades and use ClassSense for the teaching work. In small schools with no mandated platform it can stand alone.
Is anything published to students automatically?
No. Everything generated waits in a review queue until a teacher approves it.
Does it grade essays?
No. Selected-response and structured practice are graded automatically. Extended writing needs a human, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.
Is student data used to train AI models?
No. ClassSense uses Anthropic's Claude through their commercial API, where API data is not used for model training. There is no advertising and there are no ad trackers.
Can parents see their child's progress?
Yes, through an invite code the teacher issues. Parents see only their own child.
What file types can I upload?
PDF, DOCX and PPTX.
Does it work in languages other than English?
This is genuinely untested. If you teach in another language, try one unit and tell us what comes back. That answer would be useful to a lot of people.
Does it sync grades to my district gradebook?
Not today. Official grades are transferred by hand.
Is this for homeschooling?
No. ClassSense is built for teachers with classes. Families teaching at home are better served by Clareza Academy, a separate product built for that.
Who built it?
A working teacher. ClassSense grew out of dissertation research on active learning in introductory biology, and out of too many evenings spent grading.
What is it bad at right now?
No LMS integration, no automatic grade sync, no school-wide administration yet, and essay grading is not automated. It is in open beta and there are rough edges.
