Most privacy pages are written to survive a lawyer's review rather than to answer a teacher's question. Here is the direct version.
What is collected
- Account information: name, email, role, school name.
- Educational activity: answers, mastery scores, game activity, progress over time. This is what makes adaptation possible.
- Curriculum you upload and the lessons generated from it.
- Messages between parents and teachers sent through the platform.
- Standard server logs for security and troubleshooting.
What is not done with it
- It is not sold, ever.
- There is no advertising in the product and no ad trackers on this website. Not a pixel, not a remarketing tag.
- It is not used to train AI models. ClassSense uses Anthropic's Claude through their commercial API, and under those terms API data is not used for model training.
FERPA and COPPA in plain terms
Student records in ClassSense are educational records controlled by the teacher or school that created the class. ClassSense acts as a service provider, a school official under FERPA, at their direction.
Student accounts are created through a class join code issued by a teacher. For students under thirteen, ClassSense relies on the school or teacher to provide consent on behalf of parents, which is COPPA's school consent framework. No more information is collected from a student than participation requires.
Deletion
Parents can review their own child's information through the portal, and can request deletion through their teacher or directly. Accounts that are deleted are anonymised rather than left lying around under an old email address.
The uncomfortable honest bit. Uploaded curriculum and student answers are processed by a third party AI service to provide the features. That is a real data flow, it is disclosed, and if your school's policy forbids it, ClassSense is not the right tool. Better you know now than in an audit.
The full detail is in the privacy policy and the data practices page for schools.
Common questions
Is student data used to train AI models?
No. ClassSense uses Anthropic's Claude via their commercial API, where data sent through the API is not used to train their models.
Do you use advertising trackers?
No. There are no ad pixels or remarketing tags on this site, and no advertising in the product.
Is ClassSense FERPA compliant?
ClassSense operates as a school official under FERPA, using student data only to deliver the service at the direction of the teacher or school.
Can we get student data deleted?
Yes, on request. Deleted accounts are anonymised rather than retained under the old identity.
