How to set up ClassSense in about ten minutes

Most of setup is a few clicks. The one step that waits is the upload, which takes about 3 minutes. Reading what it made is the part worth giving real time.

You do not need to reformat anything or build a roster to start. The fastest route is: make an account, glance at the sample, upload one unit you are about to teach, check the lessons, and hand out a code. Here is the order that wastes the least time.

1

Make an account

Go to app.classsense.org and choose to register. Enter your name, set Role to Teacher, add an email and password, and press Create Account. Your first 30 days are free and no card is needed.

2

Look at the sample

Your dashboard has Sample: The Water Cycle with five pretend students. Two minutes here shows you what you are building.

3

Create your course

Courses, then + Create Course. A Course Title is enough. Add Subject and Grade Level if you like.

4

Upload one unit

On the Materials tab press Choose File and pick a PDF, Word or PowerPoint file you teach from.

While the upload runs

Processing takes about 3 minutes, and you can watch topics and skills appear one by one. Use that time. Open the sample course and click through a lesson, or create a second course for another class. A longer unit works best split into two or three files, one per part, because each upload becomes up to 10 skill packs.

Check the skill packs

When the upload finishes, open the Skill Packs tab. Packs that pass ClassSense's automatic quality checks are published for you. Others are held with a status of pending review or needs manual review. The tab name shows how many are pending. Click each one, read the explanation, the misconceptions and the questions, and press ✓ Publish or ✗ Reject. Reading these is not busywork: AI makes mistakes, and you are the final check. The review guide walks through it.

If the order is wrong, press Reorder Skill Packs, drag the packs into place, then press ✓ Save Order. If a picture on a pack is not right, press Remove picture under it.

Give students the join code

At the top of the course page is the Student Join Code, six characters. Press Copy Code and put it on the board or in a message. Students go to app.classsense.org, create an account with the role Student, and enter the code on the Join a Course screen. If it leaks somewhere it shouldn't, press New Code: the old one stops working at once and students already in stay in.

The first time in, students answer a few quick questions and choose how they like to learn: Game-Based, Reading & Quiz, Visual or Experiential. They can switch any time. They also choose a nickname, up to 20 characters, which shows on the class wall instead of their real name. Tell them that before they type one.

A quick checklist

The Getting started list on your dashboard ticks these off as you do them.

What setup does not include

There is no roster import, no Google sign-in and no sync with a learning management system. Students sign up with the code themselves. For more on the first-day logistics, see ClassSense for new teachers, and how to use the sample course before you remove it.
