What is and is not here. ClassSense has no exit ticket feature and no way to schedule a ticket for the end of a period. What it has: a short Assessment you generate in Create Content, and skill pack practice that updates mastery as students answer.
What an exit ticket is for
An exit ticket answers one question for you, today: did they get the thing I just taught? The format barely matters. Two or three questions, answered in the last five minutes, read before the next class. Its value is entirely in what you do with the pile, which is why a ticket you collect and never read is just paperwork.
It is a cousin of formative assessment in general, and the same rule applies: the information has to reach you in time to change tomorrow.
Three honest ways to do it
1. A one-page Assessment, printed
In Create Content, generate an Assessment on today's topic and ask for a small number of items. Question types available include multiple choice, short answer, true/false, fill-in-the-blank and matching. It downloads as a .docx. Print it, or pick the three questions you want and paste them into your own slip. Short answer questions are a good choice for tickets because they show how a student thinks, but you will be reading and marking those yourself.
2. Skill pack practice as the ticket
If you uploaded the lesson, the skill packs already have practice items. Students working on the skill in the last few minutes produce answers that feed mastery. A few minutes will not get anyone to Mastered, since that needs at least five answers at around 85% accuracy, but the Students grid and the dashboard show you who is already stuck, and the wrong options reveal which named misconception they chose.
3. A hand-written ticket, informed by the data
Often best: look at where the class struggled in the grid, then write the single question that would tell you whether the fix worked. ClassSense is telling you where to aim. The question is yours.
What to ask
The best ticket questions cannot be answered by recognising a word. "What is photosynthesis?" gets a memorised line. "A plant is kept in a dark closet for a week; what happens to its glucose and why?" shows whether the idea transferred. Good options are one question that applies the idea to a new case, one that asks for the likeliest mistake, and one that asks what is still unclear. The skill pack's named misconceptions are a ready source for the second kind, because they list the wrong answers real students give.
Reading the pile, quickly
Sort into three stacks
Got it, nearly, lost. Do not grade them. Three stacks takes two minutes for a class set.
Read the wrong answers first
The same wrong answer showing up repeatedly is a misconception, and that is a lesson plan for tomorrow.
Decide before you leave the room
Reteach to all, pull a small group, or move on. Write the decision on the stack.
Where ClassSense does not fit
- No one-click ticket. Everything above takes a few steps from you.
- No scheduling or release time. You decide when students do it, in class.
- Practice inside the app is multiple choice. If your ticket needs a sentence, it is on paper.
- Nothing here is a grade. A ticket result does not flow to any gradebook, and there is no LMS sync. If you record it, you record it.
There is also a free set of exit ticket templates on this site if you want a layout without generating anything. For a bigger check at the end of a unit, see the quiz generator.
Common questions
Does ClassSense have an exit ticket tool?
No. You can generate a short Assessment in Create Content and use it as one, or use skill pack practice and watch the Students grid. Neither is a dedicated exit ticket feature.
Can students submit an exit ticket online?
Not as a ticket. Student practice in the app is multiple choice and feeds mastery. A generated Assessment is a printable document.
Will exit ticket answers show in my dashboard?
Skill pack answers do, through mastery. Answers on a printed Assessment do not, because they are on paper.
How many questions should an exit ticket have?
Two or three is usual. More than that stops being a ticket and starts being a quiz.
