ClassSense vs Edpuzzle: video first or skill first

Edpuzzle is for making a video you already trust worth watching. ClassSense is for turning your documents into practice. Different starting points, different jobs.

Edpuzzle and ClassSense turn up in the same searches because both answer a teacher's question, "how do I know they actually got it". One does it by stopping a video to ask. The other does it by tracking practice across the skills in a unit. The right pick depends on whether your lesson is a video or a document.

Source note. Edpuzzle facts below come from edpuzzle.com and its pricing page, read in October 2026. Plans change, so confirm current limits there.

What Edpuzzle says it is

Its homepage calls it interactive learning, and lists videos, quizzes, slides, student projects and docs, with an AI assistant for teachers. The video flow works like this: take a video, add questions at points where you want to check understanding, assign it, and see analytics on who watched and how they answered. It describes a Live Mode, a library of lessons made by other teachers, and AI that grades student responses and generates questions. Accessibility options it lists include multiple attempts, audio options, closed captions and slower playback.

On the pricing page, as of October 2026, a Basic plan is free for teachers and includes 20 interactive activities to assign without limits and 10 supported assignments. Pro Teacher is listed at $13.75 a month billed annually with unlimited interactive activities and 120 supported assignments. A Pro School plan is custom priced and adds items like standards-aligned content and admin tools. Edpuzzle also lists LMS integrations in its plan comparison.

Where Edpuzzle is the better choice

What ClassSense does differently

ClassSense does not use video. You upload a PDF, Word file or PowerPoint from your unit and it builds up to ten skill packs, each with an explanation at three depths, worked examples, named misconceptions, strategy variants and practice. The unit of attention is the skill, not the clip. Every answer feeds a mastery status per student, and the dashboard flags who needs help.

Think about what a student has after a video check. They have answered four questions at four timestamps. After a week in ClassSense they have a status on each skill in the unit, with returning checks on the ones they had mastered. One tells you they paid attention to a video. The other tells you whether the skill is there when the video is not. The first is not worse; it answers a different question. See our page on formative assessment for how to think about which question you are asking, and exit tickets for the quick end-of-lesson version.

Using both

A reasonable week: the video lesson with embedded questions on Monday, then the same unit's skills in ClassSense for Tuesday to Thursday, and the grid on Friday to choose who gets a small group. They do not compete for the same job. Our tools comparison lays out the categories.

Who should not switch. If most of your lessons are video-based, Edpuzzle's free plan is a strong place to be, and ClassSense will not replace it. ClassSense also has no LMS sync and no student video content. It is $19 a month after 30 free days, no card, for unlimited courses and students.
