Districts increasingly ask for a VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) before approving a tool, usually measured against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. Here is the plain status for ClassSense, so you do not have to dig it out of a PDF.
Status in one line: a draft report dated July 8, 2026 exists. It was prepared by reviewing the code. Live testing with screen readers and an automated checker is still pending, and the report will be reissued after that. We do not claim conformance.
What the draft report covers
The report follows the VPAT 2.5 format and covers WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA success criteria for:
- the Reading & Quiz learning path, and
- the surrounding app: login, navigation, course and skill lists, the learn flow and the profile page.
The class games are out of scope. They are optional enhancements, and Reading & Quiz is the equivalent accessible path to the same practice. Games do have time limits. Reading & Quiz does not.
Where it says "Partially Supports"
Two criteria are marked Partially Supports in the draft, both because the formal test has not been run yet:
| Criterion | What the draft says | What is missing |
|---|---|---|
| 1.4.4 Resize Text | Layouts are built to scale and an in-app Larger Text setting exists. | A formal 200% zoom pass has not been run. |
| 1.4.10 Reflow | Layouts use a responsive single column. | A formal 320 pixel width reflow pass has not been run. |
What "verified in code" means, and what it does not
Most criteria in the draft are marked as supported based on reading how the interface is built: labels, headings, focus handling, keyboard operation. That is useful, but it is not the same as watching a screen reader user complete a quiz. Until the live passes with NVDA, VoiceOver and an automated checker are done, treat every "Supports" in the draft as provisional. The report does not list known failures, but that is not a substitute for the testing.
Student display settings that exist today
Each student can change these in their profile. They are saved to the account on the server, so they follow the student to another device or browser.
- Reduce motion. Cuts back animation and movement.
- Larger text. Raises the text size across the learning screens.
- High contrast. Switches to a higher-contrast color scheme.
- Prefer Reading & Quiz. Sends the student to the accessible, untimed path instead of games.
Teachers can also set these up with a student at the start of the year, which matters for students who will not hunt through a settings page. If you are matching tools to accommodations in an IEP or 504 plan, see read-aloud and accommodations and dyslexia-friendly practice for what the product does and does not do.
What a district should ask for
- The current VPAT, with the report date. If it is the July 2026 draft, you know what you are getting.
- The testing method, and whether assistive-technology testing was done live or by code review.
- A date for the re-issued report. We cannot promise a date here, so ask when you request it.
- A named contact for accessibility problems. Report one by writing to the contact address on the data practices page.
If a student cannot use ClassSense with their assistive technology, tell us what they tried. A specific report is the fastest way for us to fix something, and you should have a non-ClassSense route ready in the meantime. For how we handle student information in general, see student data and AI.
Plain-language summary, not legal advice. Last reviewed October 2026. Laws and regulations change, so have your district's counsel confirm anything you rely on.
Common questions
Is ClassSense WCAG 2.1 AA conformant?
We do not claim that. We have a draft VPAT dated July 8, 2026 that marks some criteria as partially supported and others as supported based on code review. Live assistive-technology testing is still pending.
Do you have a VPAT I can send my district?
Yes, a draft in VPAT 2.5 format. Ask for it by email using the contact address on the data practices page, and tell your district it is a draft pending live testing.
Can a student use ClassSense without the games?
Yes. Reading & Quiz is the accessible path, it has no time limits, and students can choose it as their preferred mode in their profile settings.
Do the display settings follow a student between devices?
Yes. Reduce motion, larger text, high contrast and the Reading & Quiz preference are stored with the student's account.
