Privacy Policy
ClassSense is an adaptive learning platform built by a working educator. We handle student information the way we'd want our own students' information handled: collect only what the product needs, never sell it, never advertise with it, and delete it when asked.
What we collect
- Account information: name, email address, role (teacher, student, or parent), and school name.
- Educational activity: for students — answers to practice questions, mastery scores, learning-style preferences, game activity (scores, streaks, badges, chosen nicknames), and progress over time. This is the data that makes the adaptive engine work.
- Curriculum materials: documents teachers upload (PDF, DOCX, PPTX) and the lessons generated from them.
- Messages: parent–teacher messages sent through the platform, and beta feedback you submit.
- Technical data: standard server logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps) used for security and troubleshooting. We do not use analytics trackers or advertising cookies.
How we use it
Solely to provide ClassSense: generating adaptive lessons from uploaded curriculum, tracking mastery, personalizing practice, notifying teachers when students need help, and showing parents their own child's progress. We do not sell personal information, we do not show advertising, and we do not use student data for any purpose unrelated to the educational service.
AI processing
ClassSense uses Anthropic's Claude models to turn uploaded curriculum into lessons and to support grading. Uploaded material and student answers may be processed by this AI service to provide those features. Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, data sent through the API is not used to train their models.
Students, FERPA, and COPPA
- Student records in ClassSense are educational records under the control of the teacher or school that created the class. We act as a service provider ("school official" under FERPA) at their direction and use student data only to deliver the service.
- Student accounts are created through a class join code issued by a teacher. For students under 13, ClassSense relies on the school or teacher to provide consent on behalf of parents, consistent with COPPA's school-consent framework. We collect no more information from students than is reasonably necessary for participation.
- Parents can view their own child's progress through a teacher-issued invite code, and may contact us (or their teacher) to review or request deletion of their child's information.
Who we share it with
Only the service providers required to run ClassSense:
- Fly.io — application hosting and database (United States region).
- Anthropic — AI processing of curriculum and answers, as described above.
- Resend — transactional email (notifications and digests).
No data brokers, no advertisers, no sale of data — ever.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Passwords are stored only as bcrypt hashes. Access to student data is scoped by role: teachers see their own classes, parents see only their own linked children, students see only themselves.
Retention and deletion
We keep data for as long as the associated account is active. Teachers can delete courses and materials at any time. To delete an account and its data entirely — or to request a copy of your data — email us at the address below and we'll complete it within 30 days.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll notify account holders by email before the change takes effect.
